Because hand drawing and colouring animation is so time consuming, it was unlikely that I was going to get everything done on time. However, I really only discovered this at the start of April, at a point where there was only two months left.
The second issue was the fact that I changed from working on CelAction to TVPaint at quite a late stage – CelAction as I had explained in an earlier post wasn’t working out for me in terms of movement and design. The film runs under three and a half minutes which isn’t long by any standards but perhaps it may have been better to cut the length even further

There was a lot of dialogue which needed a lot of lip-sync, which is time consuming to animate (although on the plus side, it did allow me to time my animation correctly). What went wrong?įirstly, I guess the simplest answer was that this project was quite ambitious from the start – it had a large cast of characters, a complex plot with about five different locations, which required a significant number of backgrounds to be produced (around thirty in total). So the big question now is why did I not finish on time. I’ve always been someone that likes to have everything done by the deadline and it’s frustrating to see so much that is unfinished. I feel somewhat disheartened that I didn’t get everything complete for this project. The music track is nearly ready, but I haven’t yet started on mixing the music with my sound design. I have completed all the drawing for the animation, but about 40% of the colouring needs to be completed.
The fact that despite all this work, I still didn’t get everything finished is both disappointing and frustrating, particularly when I see everyone else completing their projects.Īs I write now, it is the Wednesday morning before the assessment. I think I’ve never worked so hard before in my life, particularly during the last couple of months. In many respects this project has been a long and tiring one. Although I’ve touched on some issues in earlier blog posts, I want now to spend a little more time dissecting how everything went, what went well and what went wrong. It’s now I want to spend a little time thinking about how this project went over the past six months.
